Inauguration of War Trophy T-55 Tank

        A T-55 Tank presented by the Indian Army was inaugurated in the School on 10 Aug 18 by Major General VPS Bhakuni, VSM (Retd). T-55 combat machine entered service with the Russian Army in the year 1950, only to be inducted in the Indian Army a decade later. The machine is one of the first soviet tanks to be introduced in the Indian Army. It played a key role in the 1971 Indo-Pak war during which it was deployed at the bordering district of Fazilka in Punjab. The tank’s main armament consists of a 100 m rifled tank gun with a capacity to hit targets in the range of over 14 km. In addition to this it is also mounted with 7.62 mm machine guns and 12.7mm machine guns which are used as anti-aircraft weapons. Maj Gen VPS Bhakuni ,VSM in his formal address encouraged the cadets to make maximum utilisation of the facilities provided in the School to achieve excellence. He also acknowledged the contribution of Sainik Schools as feeder institutions to Armed Forces training academies.

72 nd Independence Day Celebration

Sainik School Kodagu celebrated 72nd Independence Day Celebrations on on 15th Aug 2018 with great pomp and glory. Air Vice Marshal VKS Rana VSM,The Chairman, Local Board of Administration presided over the function as a chief guest. He was escorted in with a horse cavalcade to the Flagpole. After hoisting the tricolour, all cadets were assembled in Multipurpose Hall and colourful cultural programmes were presented in the honour of the Chief Guest. Patriotic song, Kodava Dance and a patriotic play enthralled all the dignitaries and cadets. The Chief Guest interacted with the cadets over a cup of tea. He wished all the staff and cadets a ‘Happy Independence Day’. The Principal and other staff members were present on the occasion.

            Later, NCC unit of the school visited the inmates of Shrishakti Old Age Home at Kudige and presented a television set purchased out of volunteer contribution fund raised by the NCC staff and cadets. Cadets distributed sweets and interacted with them. A play was also presented to entertain them. One contingent of the NCC unit represented the school in Independence Day Parade held at the Fort, Madikeri, the District Headquarter.
